It's been a while, but I remember seeing the videos of the first incident last year and I didn't get the impression that he was cornered, exactly. I'd be curious, on the off chance you have any reference beyond the defense testimony, which might help reinforce that characterization

(I'll confess having argued that he could have continued to evade, but instead saw an opportunity to take cover between cars, where he squared up and fired. If I misunderstood, I would like to issue corrections.)

More video has been played in the trial. There is evidence that Rosenbaum had his hands on Rittenhouse's gun. Rosenbaum clearly imagined this frightened teen wouldn't pull the trigger or Rosenbaum was so suicidal he didn't care. He had just been released from the hospital for suicidal ideation.

The FBI overhead video suggests that further retreat would place Rittenhouse among another large group of rioters had he continued between those cars. That may be why Rittenhouse turned toward Rosenbaum.

It's worth noting that the large group of rioters were smashing cars with baseball bats up until the first gunshot. I wouldn't want to run through them even if I hadn't just shot someone.

It was interesting to see the video showing the bat wielders scatter everywhere as the gunshots sounded. I hadn't realized that Kyle shot Rosenbalm 4 times, the first just after he turns (he must be aware of the bat people) as he approaches the car. Rosenbalm starts to fall and gets shot more times, finally on his back on the ground. Kyle emerges from between the cars. I can appreciate his fear and his near disbelief that the chase was over as he rounds the car and sees others running in.

Then you need to get your eyes checked. He was not only blocked in by the cars but behind said cars was a group of rioters
