January around here got cooking with quite a lot of gun stuff. But first we went to the Quillette social in New Orleans and took the temperature of the modern anti-woke movement.
I got in more pictures than I should have because I brought a cute date.
Then we did some gas stove freak-out debunking.
Further investigation shows there are really two methods of attempting to shit on gas stoves scientifically. One is to do wide correlative studies such as the one critiqued above, which never seem to control for the fact that gas stoves are disproportionately owned in cities, and therefore have worse air quality due to reasons other than the gas stove. The other sort of study basically burns a gas burner in a sealed tent for a few hours and measures air pollution in the tent. Notably absent from these second kind of studies is actual cooking. I’d love to see a study where two scientists cooked actual food in a sealed unventilated tent, one with gas and one with induction, and compared those levels of pollution.
Then we went to SHOT Show again with Open Source Defense.
AND as the culture wars turned back to guns, we did a little more focus on that topic.
As I’ve stated before, the range of HWFO material goes far and wide, but the milkshake that brings the boys to the yard is gun articles. I’m also expanding on a SHOT Show relationship with TTAG - The Truth About Guns - who will be rehosting some of the HWFO gun material on their site just for grins, and with full permission.

Subscription
This publication is and will always remain free to read, and any money earned through Substack subscriptions or Patreon will be dutifully spent on the author’s alcohol fund. Anyone who contributes to said alcohol fund will gain access to our private Slack server to discuss HWFO topics with other HWFO readers (and me) outside the public eye. Around 170 people are yammering away in there right now, and some of the article topics are born from these discussions. I’ll post an updated access link in a few days, as subscriber only content. If you’re a Patreon supporter you can gain access too, just email me.
The chick whose house I'm staying at tonight (my best friend's little sister) laughed when I read her the slogan on the shirt. I may have to acquire one. 😁
This is all well and good, but what kind of stoves will feature at HWFOCon?
